Jerez hosts MotoGP and Moto2 private tests

The Ducati Team (without official riders), several MotoGP CRT and Moto2 teams will hit the track at Jerez today for a three-day private test. The Ducati Team continues testing the Desmosedeci GP12, this time without their official riders. With Valentino Rossi participating in the Monza Rally Show this week and Nicky Hayden recovering from his recent wrist surgery, the Italian factory has Superbike World Champion Carlos Checa and Franco Battaini present for further testing of next year’s prototype.

Colin Edwards will debut at the controls of the Suter BMW CRT bike, as the Texan returns to the track to begin developing the NGM Forward Racing prototype for the MotoGP class next season. Also present is Colombian rider Yonny Hernandez aboard the BQR Team’s Kawasaki powered FTR machine.

Present for testing in the Moto2 category are teams Mobile NGM Forward Racing with team riders Alex de Angelis and Yuki Takahashi, Marc VDS Racing Team with riders Scott Redding and Mika Kallio, the Aspar Team with Nico Terol and Toni Elías, Pons Racing with Pol Espargaró and Esteve Rabat, Tech 3 with Bradley Smith and Xavier Simeon and the Gresini Team with British rider Gino Rea And More News.

Edwards debuts the Suter-BMW CRT in Jerez test

Over a dozen riders gathered at the Andalusian track in a three-day test that featured MotoGP, CRT and Moto2 bikes on track together. Despite prevalent rain earlier in the week, the first day of testing was held under sun and clear skies, encouraging the riders to squeeze all they could from the eight hours of work (from 10am to 6:00pm) allotted to them each test day.

Colin Edwards wrapped up his first experience aboard CRT machinery today riding the BMW powered Suter CRT bike of his new team for 2012, NGM Forward Racing. The experienced Texan posted a best time of 1'43.9 during his 39 laps, in his first day of track action since getting injured in the tragic accident that also claimed the life of Marco Simoncelli at Sepang. The American was absent for both the Grand Prix of Valencia and end of season Official Test held directly after at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit.

Sharing the track was Yonny Hernandez, who took to the controls of the Kawasaki motor driven BQR FTR motorcycle to turn out a best lap of 1.45.7, and Ivan Silva, who was crowned the Stock Extreme Champion in the Spanish Championship CEV on Sunday, who rode the prototype Inmotec machine to register an unofficial time of 1'45.5 within 40 laps.

Also present was Ducati Team, though without their official riders. Instead the GP12 was put through its paces in the hands of World Superbike champion Carlos Checa and regular Ducati test rider Franco Battaini. The two riders lapped aboard the 2012 1000cc Desmosedici sporting an aluminum frame, although their times were not disclosed.

Several teams from the Moto2 class were present to give their new riders time aboard their new machinery, among them the Aspar Team with riders Nico Terol and former Moto2 World Champion, Toni Elías. The two focused primarilyu on bike geometry and set-up, with Elías putting in a remarkable 104 laps aboard the 600cc bike.

Scott Redding and Mika Kallio of Marc VDS Racing Team continued to familiarize themselves with the Kalex Moto2 that the team will run next year. Redding had a crash early in the day but was unhurt. Also taking a fall in the morning was Pol Espargaró of the Pons Racing team, the Catalan rider was also uninjured and was able to continue the day's testing along side team mate Esteve Rabat.

Testing continues for Moto2 and MotoGP teams

All of the teams who participated in the first day of testing yesterday returned to the track today to get back to the task of testing their 2012 machines. The riders were met with optimal conditions as the temperatures rose higher than yesterday and the sun continued to shine, and they turned laps for the full eight hours granted for testing each day.

Joining the group of CRT, MotoGP and Moto2 machines today was Randy de Puniet on a Bridgestone-shod, Aprilia-powered machine, the same bike last week the former MotoGP racer and current test rider for Aprilia, Alex Hofmann, tested at Valencia´s Ricardo Tormo circuit last week. De Puniet made the most of the test, using the opportunity to get an idea of what the Aspar Team’s Aprilia can do, the bike being the basis of the future CRT the team plans to run in the MotoGP class next year.

The Moto2 class made the most of the good conditions as in just seven days the winter period with its subsequent ban on testing begins for them, though not for the new CRT bikes, for which testing is still allowed for the new category.

Colin Edwards worked away on the progress of the Suter-BMW he will ride in 2012 for the NGM Forward Racing team. The Texan’s second day aboard the CRT machine saw him complete 40 laps with a best time of 1’42.6, an improvement of 1.3 seconds over his time of yesterday.

The BQR team ran the Kawaskai powered FTR piloted alternatively by Yonny Hernández and Spanish national Stock-Extreme champion, Iván Silva. Also on track again today were Ducati’s MotoGP GP12 machines with Carlos Checa and Franco Battaini assuming rider duties alongside the Moto2 and CRT machines in the absence of Valentino Rossi and Nicky Hayden.

After two days of private testing at the Jerez circuit, the experienced Texan spoke to motogp.com about his first impressions of the CRT machine, one of the new generation of MotoGP bikes that will join the grid in 2012. This was Edwards' first ride on the BMW-Suter after missing the post- Valencia Official Test while recovering from shoulder surgery.

The veteran expected that there would be work to do before next season, though his first impression of the bike was higher than he originally expected. “Overall, it is better than I thought it would be, the potential is there. I think we are at about 65 percent right now,” he said.

The electronics package the team will use is new to MotoGP, and Edwards said the remaining 35 percent of bike development will come from improvements with those electronics. “The chassis is set up, but the main thing is the electronics and getting the whole package to come together. With the electronics, every time we make a little change and make it better, everything just gets a little smoother and easier.”

Speaking further of the overall impression of the new bike, the Texan said: “The bike reminds me a lot of 2003 when I went to Aprilia. It's got a screamer engine, lots of torque, somebody built the chassis, someone put an engine it, and it came a long way through the year. It was one of the first bikes with ride by wire and all the electronics. It reminds me a lot of that. But I know what I need, I know what I am looking for, I know what want, I know how to make the bike go faster, so the main thing now is just don’t lose focus and keep going down the right path.”

The team spent most of the two days on Bridgestones from 2011, though they did get a chance to test a new rear tire, which created challenges but Edwards is sure are fixable. “We got a little more chatter...once we get the electronics fixed I know that will go away, I am sure it will.”

As for the bike’s lap times, of which the unofficial best time on Wednesday was a 1'43.9 and Thursday was a 1’42.6 (as compared to Edwards’ best time of 1’40.188 in the Spanish GP at Jerez in March), Edwards was unconcerned. “I came here and I would have been happy with just yesterday's times, being injured and all, but I did a ‘42.6 today, which is a little better than a second faster.

Final day of MotoGP and Moto2 testing in Jerez

The third and final day of the private three day test held at the Jerez circuit concluded under perfect weather conditions, although this final day saw fewer participants as several teams completed their work at the conclusion of the day on Thursday.

Yonny Hernandez and Iván Silva returned to the track, taking turns at the controls of the Kawasaki powered BQR FTR prototype. Silva took the morning slot, finishing his session by signing a best lap of 1'44.2 but not improving on his best time from yesterday, a 1'43 .6. Hernandez rode in the afternoon, to post a best time 1'44.0, four tenths quicker than his time from Thursday.

That left Colin Edwards holding the fastest time of the CRT bikes, who posted a 1’42.6 aboard the Suter-BMW of NGM Forward Racing team on Thursday.

Randy De Puniet continued with his tests on the Aprilia powered Aspar Team CRT, putting in 70 laps today. Also joining the big bikes was Ducati test rider Franco Battaini aboard the GP12. The Italian was the only Ducati rider as Carlos Checa completed his testing on Thurday.

Among the representatives of the Moto2 class, Scott Redding (Marc VDS Racing Team) again paced fastest for the third day running. The Briton recorded a best lap of 1’43.3 today, four tenths off his time of 1’42.9 which put him at the head the timesheets on both Wednesday and Thursday. British rider Gino Rea (Gresini Racing) had the only fall of the day, having a minor crash in the afternoon but suffering no consequences. Toni Elias returned to the track, and like his first day of testing, put in a remarkable number of laps, no less than 90 aboard the Suter of the Aspar Team.

Randy de Puniet to MotoGP Aspar Team in 2012

The Aspar Team has joined the list of teams to compete the 2012 season with CRT (Claiming Rules Team) bikes. In addition, the team will have two riders, Randy de Puniet and Aleix Espargaró.

De Puniet had the opportunity to complete two days of testing with the Aspar Team, and feelings of both sides have been magnificent. On the other hand, Valencia and Italian firm set are linked since 1996, have sealed their way four titles and seven subtitles. So the Aspar Team has decided to rely on Noale house as a supplier of engines for its new adventure CRT.

Jorge "Aspar" Martínez:

"We are convinced that this challenge will be very successful, both with the riders and the engines, which will be supplied by Aprilia. We wanted to work with the brand in this new project because of our good working relationship and for their proven capabilities in smaller categories. Our goal this year is to be the best CRT and prepare to go a step further in 2013."

Randy De Puniet:

"I am delighted to return to the Aspar Team, a team I raced with in 2005 in 250cc. I have very fond memories of that time. Together we will embark on a new challenge, CRT. I realize that this team is very competitive and will fight for the best material, in fact I have been able to train with them and the conclusions have been optimal. CRT is the future of MotoGP and I think there will be a lot of work ahead, but a very rewarding work. The goal for the next season will be to adapt as quickly as possible to the prototype, and gradually catch the front runners."

"Training in Jerez was productive and I was able to get a lot of information about the bike. Rossi second in Monza Rally Show

The 2011 edition of the Monza Rally Show ended yesterday at the historic Italian circuit near Milan, with 97 drivers on track including 8 World Rally championship winners, 5 European Rally championship winners, an IRC Rally title holder, 11 Italian Rally series winners, and 3 winners of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Eight times World Rally champion, Sébastien Loeb, won the classic three day, nine-stage event in his Citroen DS3 WRC, and was also the receiver of the Master Show- Marco Simoncelli Trophy, the final stage award dedicated to the memory of the late MotoGP rider who was due to compete at Monza in a Fiesta RS WRC.

Rossi put on an excellent display of his ability to race four wheeled machinery, beating the specialists in two of the stages while sporting a tribute to his friend and fellow MotoGP racer Simoncelli on his car. The final results saw the Ducati rider finish 24 seconds behind Frenchman Loeb, with Dindo Capello, one of the title winner of several editions of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, coming in third.

Among other familiar names in the competition were Davide Brivio who finished seventh overall, Uccio who came in 31st, with riders Andrea Dovizioso 54th, Claudio Corti 60th, and Andrea Iannone in 70th place.

The story of MotoGP so far this season has been the success of Casey Stoner and his Marlboro Ducati team. This year he has taken nine victories, three podiums and, most importantly, the coveted world championship title, all with two rounds of racing left to go. In fact, he has never finished outside the top six in any race this season. This incredible consistency has denied Valentino Rossi a championship title for the second year in a row, as Stoner sealed the title after a difficult wet and dry Round 15 at Motegi.

Despite a bumpy start to the race weekend at Philip Island, which included two rough falls in Friday's free practice session, Stoner secured a front row start, qualifying in third place behind pole-position man Dani Pedrosa. Rossi, sporting a tasty new red/white colour scheme on his FIAT Yamaha, completed the front row in second position.
Race:

Stoner, fresh from his world championship win at Motegi during Round 15, was looking well-placed to take a race win at Philip Island, his home circuit. This was to be his first race on home soil all year, making it all the more important. He did just that, taking a start-to-finish victory, some six seconds ahead of Ducati teammate Loris Capirossi when the chequered flag was raised. This Ducati one-two gave Marlboro Ducati the World Constructor's Championship title. Stoner was the first home-grown winner of the Australian MotoGP since Mick Doohan in 1998.

Stoner was untouchable from the word go when the starting lights went out. Despite starting from third position on the grid, he was first man through turn one. 2006 world champion Nicky Hayden, who holds the outright lap record at Philip Island, was piling on the pressure in the early stages, shadowing Stoner through every turn in the hope that he would run wide or make a mistake. After a brief foray into the lead, Hayden dropped back down the order, however. He was later forced to retire due to teething problems with his Honda RC212V. Stoner was undeterred by Hayden's early challenges, and by lap 15 had carved out a distinct advantage over the rest of the pack. All this time, Rossi, Pedrosa and Marco Melandri had been scrapping over second place, though they were soon demoted to third, fourth and fifth when Loris Capirossi zoomed by them on his Marlboro Ducati. Loris was on incredible form, though by the time he had got himself into second place he was too far behind Stoner to make an attempt at catching him. Stoner crossed the line in first place with a 6-second advantage, with Capirossi second and Rossi third. Pedrosa was a distant fourth, whilst Alex Barros and Randy de Puniet rounded out the top six.

Speaking after the race, Stoner said, "I've been working very hard for a lot of years trying to win here. This whole season has been magical for us, we came here with a lot less pressure after winning the title in Japan, so I could really enjoy this race. It's definitely my best victory so far. I have to thank the Australian fans, it's good to see so many of them here and I hope they've had a lot of fun, I really appreciate it."

The day clearly belonged to one driver and one driver only - Casey Stoner. The main Aussie of the Moto GP show silenced all his critics. Unusually for the 21 year old team Ducati rider he had a bad start. Slipping down the order to seventh position. This never seemed to phase the guy aptly described as "a genius" by his project manager Livio Suppo. Instead of tip-toeing around the drenched circuit and waiting for things to unfold ahead of him, Stoner went ahead and in the next 3 laps worked his way up to third place. By halfway through the race he'd passed the race leader Colin Edwards (who had led the race from pole position up to that point) and from there on in he never looked in the slightest discomfort with riding in the changing conditions, changing conditions because the track had started drying out to the point that a clear dry racing line had formed on the track.

Chris Vermeulen (are the Aussies taking over?) had to repay his team because he had crashed his bike 3 times over the weekend, so finishing 3rd was good enough for him. Having started way back in 12th position he had an excellent start and managed to pass Valentino Rossi in the closing stages of the race. Rossi brought his bike in to 4th place to at least keep the fight for the championship between himself and Stoner more than alive. Rossi had a difficult race firstly not having the pace of Casey Stoner and also tearing his tyres up in the latter half of the race due to the track drying out.

John Hopkins caught Rossi at the end but couldn't put in a decent passing move on the 7 times Donington winner so had to settle for 5th.

The rest of the top 10 finishers were Randy de Puniet on his Kawasaki in 6th, still recovering from his knee surgery. Alex Barros passed Dani Pedrosa for 7th place on the last lap of the race. Pedrosa started well on his Honda but slipped down the order and seemed a bit easy for the other riders to get past. Behind Dani Pedrosa were Alex Hoffman and Marco Melandri, with Melandri seeming to have made an incorrect tyre choice since he came to the party in the latter stages as the track dried out.

Moto GP Germany

Round 10 of the Moto GP world championship took place under the sweltering summer sun in Germany at the Sachsenring track on the 15th July. Many feared that tyres would be a deciding factor as the excessive heat might cause the tyres to break up over the 30 lap race.

On pole started the Australian chamipionship leading Ducati rider Casey Stoner out to prove that being on pole is not cursed as many fear and the only way he could do that was to win. Starting in a very good 2nd position on the grid was Dani Pedrosa on his Repsol Honda and alongside him closing out the front row was Marco Melandri on his Gresini Honda. Randy de Puniet started in 4th place on his Kawasaki, lining up next to him was the American John Hopkins on his Rizla Suzuki and aside him the ever-threatening Valentino Rossi on his Fiat Yamaha. Following these top 6 riders from qualifying was, in order, Loris Capirossi, Alex Barros, Sylvain Guintoli, Shinya Nakano closing out the top 10 and Chris Vermeulen started in 11th. Nicky Hayden started way down in 14th place, his team having already apologised to the Texas Tornado for not providing him with a decent bike for the weekend as he had struggled with various problems since Friday.

Dani Pedrosa got off to a good start and led into turn one, Casey Stoner in 2nd place and bringing up 3rd was Marco Melandri, coming out in 4th after the 1st corner was John Hopkins. On lap 2 Marco Melandri got passed Stoner who didn't seem to put up too much of a fight. Casey Stoner re-passed Melandri at the end of lap 2 and then got passed Dani Pedrosa as well, but only for a few metres as Pedrosa came straight back at him to re-take the lead of the German Moto GP. With 3 laps gone Carlos Checa went down but was able to eventually get his bike back up and into the pits. There his team changed his gear lever which had broken and he went back out onto the track with his race obviously over.

Valentino Rossi found himself stuck behind the green Kawasaki of Randy de Puniet and not being able to find a way past the Frenchman. Chris Vermeulen's race was effectively over as it was announced that he needed to serve a "driver-through" penalty for jumping the start of the race. Frenchman Sylvain Guintoli's race came to an early end as he crashed out with 26 laps to go.

Then came one of the most important parts of the race. Valentino Rossi pushed too hard into a corner trying to pass on the inside of Randy de Puniet and he and his bike went down sliding across the asphalt and into the gravel trap. Rossi struggled with his bike to try and get back into the race but simply couldn't; his handlebars were broken in the fall.

With a full 22 laps left in the race Dani Pedrosa was already starting to pull away from Casey Stoner and his Ducati with his lead being extended to slightly more than 0.8 seconds. On lap 10 Alex Barros crashed out on his Ducati, his race over immediately while he clutched his injured right hand tightly to his chest to avoid further injury to it. With 14 laps to go Nicky Hayden passes fellow American Colin Edwards while the gap from Pedrosa's Repsol Honda to Aussie Stoner's Ducati had grown to as much as over 2.5 seconds. With 12 laps left of the race not only was Stoner falling further and further back from away from the Spaniard Pedrosa, who was now lapping the German track 2 seconds faster than the Australian, but he was now comeing into the clutches of the chasing Marco Melandri and Loris Capirossi. Into corner one of the Sachsenring gp track Stoner became the center of a Capirossi and Melandri sandwich as they both tried to pass him, Melandri taking the outside line and Capirossi the inside. Melandri ran wide though and had to abort the pass while Capirossi went through and up into 2nd place.

While Dani Pedrosa rode unchallenged at front heading to his first win in over a year, the rest of the pack were fighting for the final positions and points. With 9 laps left in the race Marco Melandri managed to pass the defending Stoner who was clearly just trying to hang on with his tyres having fallen away drastically by now. He now was in damage limitation mode with both Nicky Hayden and John Hopkins closing in on the current championship leader. On lap 23 the flying Texas Tornado was able to get passed both John Hopkins and Casey Stoner, Hayden's compatriot Colin Edwards was also able to pass the other American John Hopkins. With 6 laps to go Nicky Hayden even managed to pass Marco Melandri for the final podium spot, having started way down in 14th place. With 4 laps left Casey Stoner passed Marco Melandri for 5th position.

2011 In Motor Racing

In the 2011 MotoGP we are all desperate to find out how Valentino Rossi will be performing on the Ducati and how Casey Stoner will be doing on the Repsol Honda. In the winter testing Valentino Rossi had getting the Ducati up to a competitive speed. Rossi is one of the most popular MotoGP racers and 2010 was a disappointing year with his injured shoulder and then his crash and broken leg. Let us cross our fingers that he has recovered well from these for the 2011 season. We have a several British interests again in the MotoGP with Cal Crutchlow on an 800cc, young Brit Bradley Smith in the Moto2 and a strong representation of 4 Brits in the 125GP. The 2011 British MotoGP is in Silverstone having switched from Donington park in 2010. For fans who watch the MotoGP on the BBC, it is exciting to have Matt Roberts leading the coverage, taking over from Jennie Gow's 2010 coverage

The 2011 Formula 1 also promises to be exciting with Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button remaining on the McLaren team. Red Bull dominated the Formula 1 in 2010 with their flexible front wing and the relationship between Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber being somewhat tempestuous at times. Robert Kubica is out of the 2011 season having been involved in an horrific crash in February leaving him with many broken bones and a partially severed hand. He has a long period of rehabilitation ahead and there is a possibility that he is out of racing for good.The British Formula 1 remains at Silverstone. The Bahrain circuit that was scheduled to start the 2011 season has been withdrawn but the new Indian circuit promises to be exciting.

Moto GP Valencia

Rossi suffered a mediocre start dropping down into 5th position, and gradually down to 7th through a few corners more. Blasting from the docks was Nicky Hayden, who held an advantage in fourth place though would have to catch the Ducati Duo of Bayliss and Capirossi, who held the One-Two positions in any attempt at reeling in the world title.

Unforeseen was Championship Leader Rossi's huge error on lap five whilst leant over mid corner. The young Italian lost the front end of his Camel Yamaha, sending his 2006 title hopes into the gravel and out of contention. Despite the off a desperate Rossi remounted in hope of retaining some points, it was not yet over by Rossi's standards. Uncharacteristically the Italian had seemed edgy throughout morning warm-up, having only posted an eleventh quickest time in the untimed practice. Turned on its Heels, the advantage now lay with Hayden how rode amazingly, even under the serious pressure of having the world title within immediate reach.

Almost overlooking the battle for honours at front having witnessed the title drama unfold, Troy Bayliss had extended his lead to an incredible two-seconds over part-time team mate Loris Cappirossi. In search of his first ever Moto GP victory, Bayliss a man on a mission, held his own to the line and braced a superb win. The Italian Yamaha rider Valentino Rossi took the victory at the latest Moto GP Grand Prix in the Czech Republic after defeating Ducati rider Casey Stoner despite the Australian's good performance leading the competition. The Yamahas have become strong in the past two races with Spies winning at Assen and Lorenzo at Mugello. They have brought a few little bit of extra tech to help them out in the battle with Repsol Honda. The Ducati's have not been on the pace even though Rossi has been running the GP11.1 bike (next years chassis with an 800cc engine in). Hayden has not been able to do this as he had already used too many of his engines for the season. The riders get a limit fo six engines for the season, averaging three races each. Rossi is on to his fifth engine of the season.

Another team that is doing well in the face of adversity is the Monster Yamaha Tech 3 team. Both of its riders had suffered collarbone breakages but getting back on the bikes the following race. Crutchlow will be wanting to get the issues of tyre pressures sorted for the race on Sunday. Edwards will be looking to bag himself some more points with his collarbone hopefully fully healed now.

Nicholas "Nicky" Patrick Hayden (born July 30, 1981 in Owensboro, Kentucky) also known as The Kentucky Kid is the American professional motorcycle racer who won the MotoGP World Championship in 2006.

Hayden is one of a long line of American road racers to come from the American dirt-track scene. In 1999, Hayden won his first Grand National Championship race (Hagerstown Half Mile) and took Rookie of the Year honors. He was also declared the AMA's athlete of the Year. In 2000, Nicky Hayden won the Springfield Short Track. In 2002, despite racing in just a handful of dirt-track events, Hayden was able to win four races: Springfield Short Track (twice), Springfield TT Steeplechase, and Peoria TT Steeplechase. Hayden only lacks a win at a mile track to join Dick Mann, Kenny Roberts Sr., Bubba Shobert, and Doug Chandler in the prestigious "Grand Slam Club."

For 2006, Hayden was charged with spearheading Repsol Honda's championship aspirations, and was the only rider to be handed the full 2006 Honda bike during pre-season testing. He led the championship from the third race and looked set to break Valentino Rossi's championship-winning streak. Capturing the championship was not without peril: in the second to last round at Estoril in Portugal, teammate Dani Pedrosa lost the front-end while trying to pass Hayden. The resulting lowside accident took out both bikes. This left Hayden eight points behind Rossi in the championship with one race left to go. In the last race of the season on October 29, 2006 Rossi crashed on lap 5 trying to make up for a poor start. Hayden won the 2006 title that day by finishing 3rd (9.3s) behind race winner Troy Bayliss and Loris Capirossi.

Hayden finished the 2009 MotoGP championship in 13th place (out of 18), his worst result in 7 years of racing MotoGP. His championship campaign was marked by remarkable misfortune, being speared off the track on three different occasions, resulting in no point scoring races. Yuki Takahashi, Alex De Angelis and Jorge Lorenzo crashed into him at Motegi, Misano and Phillip Island respectively.

Early in the 2010 season, Hayden noted that there is pressure from the American audience for one of the three frontrunning American riders (himself and the Tech 3 Yamaha duo of Colin Edwards and Ben Spies) to win a race.

Yamaha Factory Racing has unveiled a new colour scheme its MotoGP challenger, the YZR-M1.

The bikes may look smart finished in blue with the signature Yamaha ‘speed block’ motif, but the livery reveals that attempts to find a title sponsor for the 2011 season have failed.

Current World Champion Jorge Lorenzo remains with the team to defend his title, while replacing Valentino Rossi is Ben Spies, who moves up to the works outfit following a year at independents Tech 3.

Marco Simoncelli's body arrived at Fiumicino airport on Tuesday morning after the tragic accident that took the life of the young rising star in the MotoGP race in Sepang on Sunday. Representatives of several sports, including Gianni Petrucci, secretary of the Italian National Olympic Committee and Paolo Sesti, president of the Italian Motorcycling Federation awaited the arrival of the coffin, along with a multitude of fans who gathered in Rome to greet the airport facilities "arrival with prolonged applause.

Friend of the deceased pilot's father, Paul, and his compatriot Marco Simoncelli and time, Valentino Rossi, has traveled on the same flight with Alitalia from Kuala Lumpur with a box set of the pilot crashed.

A public exhibition Simoncelli's body is scheduled for Wednesday at the municipal theater in his hometown of Coriano, with the funeral scheduled for Thursday, October 27th at 3:00 in the church of Santa Maria di Coriano. The Italian will be buried in the cemetery of this city, near Rimini, where he was born 24 years ago.

Italian rider Marco Simoncelli died of chest, head and neck injuries after crashing and being hit by two other riders at the Malaysian MotoGP motorcycle race

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia -- Italian rider Marco Simoncelli died Sunday after crashing and being hit by two other riders at the Malaysian MotoGP motorcycle race. He was 24.
After the crash, Simoncelli was taken to the medical center at the Sepang circuit where he died of chest, head and neck injuries, organizers said.
"He was already unconscious when the medical team arrived," MotoGP medical director Michele Macchiagodena said. "We attempted to resuscitate him but failed. He died 45 minutes later."
The race, the second to last of the season, was canceled.
Simoncelli, a rising MotoGP star, died at the same Malaysian circuit where the Italian won the 250cc world title in 2008. His death came only a week after Indianapolis 500 winner Dan Wheldon was killed in a 15-car accident in the IndyCar finale at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Simoncelli lost control of his Honda at Turn 11 four minutes into the race, but his bike regained partial grip and swerved across the track and into the path of American Colin Edwards and Italian Valentino Rossi.
Simoncelli's helmet was ripped off in the collision and he lay motionless on the track. He had been fourth at the end of the first lap.

"Quite clearly the consequences and circumstances surrounding the accident will be thoroughly investigated," race director Paul Butler said.
Edwards dislocated a shoulder in the crash. It was reset under anesthesia and the American was "fine," Macchiagodena said.
"Marco was a strong rider and he always pushed hard," said Honda rider Andrea Dovizioso of Italy. "We raced together since we were kids, I saw him always pushing to the maximum, he crashed many times, but without major injuries, he seemed invincible. What happened today seems impossible."
The Italian's death was first fatality in MotoGP since Japan's Daijiro Katoh died from injuries sustained at the 2003 Japanese Grand Prix. The number of deaths in MotoGP since it was founded in 1949 is now at 47, MotoGP said.
Last year, Japanese teenager Shoya Tomizawa died after crashing in a Moto2 race at San Marino.
Sepang circuit chairman Mokhzani Mahathir voiced his condolences and said it was unfortunate that a death occurred for the first time since the circuit opened in 1999.
"We had our standard operating procedure ... this is one-of-a-kind freak incident where the helmet came off and I am sure (motorcycling body) FIM and MotoGP will be looking into this," he said.
Newly crowned MotoGP champion Casey Stoner said that he feared for Simoncelli after seeing video of the crash.
"As soon as I saw the footage it just makes you sick inside," the Australian told the British Broadcasting Corporation. "Whenever the helmet comes off that's not a good sign."
The Italian motorcycling federation canceled all events planned for Sunday at the Mugello circuit near Florence.
The Italian Olympic Committee said it would honor Simoncelli by requesting a minute of silence at all Sunday's soccer matches, with AC Milan, his favorite team, planning to don armbands in his memory.
Italian Olympic Committee president Gianni Petrucci said Sunday marked the saddest day of his presidency.
"Life is sacred; you shouldn't die at age 24 just for a race," ANSA news agency quoted him as saying.
Nicknamed 'Super Sic' and sporting a mop of curly hair, Simoncelli was predicted by many to be a future MotoGP world champion.
Rossi had been one of the earliest riders to praise Simoncelli's desire to win.
"Going into a duel with him is like going into a fight with someone bigger than you," Rossi said. "You know he's going to take you."
Simoncelli was born on Jan. 20, 1987, in Cattolica in eastern Italy. He developed a passion for the sport at a young age and started racing in the Minibike Championships when he was 7.
He won the European 125cc title in 2002, the same year in which he made his debut in the 125cc World Championship, moving to the global competition full time the following season.
Simoncelli finished 21st that year but improved in 2004, when he moved up to 11th and earned his first win -- the Spanish Grand Prix at Jerez.
In 2005, Simoncelli joined the Nocable.it Race team. He won in Jerez again and totaled six podium finishes, ending the season -- and his time in 125cc -- in fifth place.
Simoncelli had an unimpressive start to his career in the 250cc class.

Tras la disputa de la cuarta prueba del mundial, volvemos a tener que sufrir otro parón de 3 semanas hasta la celebración del Gran Premio de Cataluña en Montmeló. Sin embargo lo ocurrido este fin de semana en Le Mans va a hacer que sin duda estas tres semanas se pasen volando. Todos aquellos que estuvimos delante del televisor el domingo por la mañana fuimos testigos de una maniobra extremadamente polémica en la que se vieron involucrados Dani Pedrosa y Marco Simoncelli, donde el piloto italiano tiró a Dani en la chicane de S´Du Chemin, el cual terminaría finalmente con una fractura en su clavícula derecha.
Después de esta maniobra, la locura se apoderó de Ernest Riveras y compañía que no podían dar crédito a lo que acababa de ocurrir. Según se sucedían las repeticiones del adelantamiento arriesgado "Por fuera" de Simoncelli, el cabreo por parte de nuestros comentaristas iba en aumento hasta que llegó el "drive trough" para SuperSic, con lo que los ánimos parecieron calmarse.

No obstante, un hecho así no podía olvidarse de un día para otro, y más si en se ve involucrado el piloto más temido en MotoGp, Marco Simoncelli. Usando un poco el sentido común, no hay duda de que el bravo piloto de Catollica se precipitó en el adelantamiento y que por culpa de su excesiva amibición hoy peligra la participación de Dani en Montmeló.

Dejando de lado esto último, lo que más ha llamado mi atención ha sido el cruce de opiniones entre diferentes personalidades importantes del mundillo. Comparto la misma opinión que todo el mundo menos Simoncelli, se equivocó de cabo a rabo. Le quedaban 9 vueltas por delante, iba el doble de rápido que Dani. Sino era en la chicane sería en Garage Bleu. Como diría Mou...¿Por qué? La respuesta es sencilla, SuperPipa. He de decir que me considero uno de los pocos a los que Simoncelli le cae simpático, pero aquí no hay aprecio que valga.

Sin desviarme mucho de lo que quería decir, me puso realmente de muy mal humor la reacción que tuvo nuestro campeón del mundo, Jorge Lorenzo, el cual se consideró como el descubridor de la agresividad de Simoncelli. Este buen hacer (denótese mi ironía) de Simoncelli viene de 250 y sus descubridores fueron Bautista y Barberá, los cuales sufrieron sus acciones y no consiguieron el apoyo de los comisarios para sancionarle. Jorge por su parte, suele remitirse al adelantamiento de Cheste, donde por poco se fue al suelo. Ahí Simoncelli entró por dentro limpiamente. Lorenzo probó su conocido por fuera y no le salió. ¿Qué pasa le pasan a Lorenzo y ya es sucio?. Después de coronarse como el Cristóbal Colón de Simoncelli pasó a cebarse con Crivillé, al que criticó por defender el pilotaje agresivo de Simoncelli en contra de un compatriota. El estatus de campeón parece quedarle grande a Lorenzo, y su ego lo perjudica considerablemente. Debe ser más afotunado en sus palabras y pensar qué cosas decir y a quién dirigirse.

Como ya dije antes, mi conclusión acerca Simoncelli es seniclla, SuperPipa. Espero que el tiempo le ayude a aprender sobre estas acciones y sobre todo a manejar mejor su adrenalina y su ambición. Controlando esto se convertirá en verdadero campeón, aunque ya lo sea. No obstante, espero que acciones tan feas como esta hagan además de perjudicar a un piloto nuestro como Dani provoquen declaraciones como las realizadas por Lorenzo

In 1999, after seeing a big opportunity for Stoner to a career as a racer, the family decided to move to England. Repsol Honda (2011-present)

Mugello, - Jorge Lorenzo look fantastic on the Mugello Circuit, Italy, on Sunday (03.07.11). In the eighth series of MotoGP 2011, the Yamaha rider bulldoze Repsol Honda duo, Andrea Dovizioso and Casey Stoner, who had to settle for finishing behind him. This proved to be the truth with Ducati's lacklustre performance in the 2004 season, which had actually been worse than their inaugural year in MotoGP in 2003.
In January 2010, Rossi said that when he retired from motorcycle racing, he hoped to move into rallying. "There are not many changes in a man's body between 22 and 34 so I still have some time left. I would consider shifting to cars, probably rallying, after that before I finally decide to take it easy … I know F1 would've been easier but by the time I finish MotoGP, I will be too old for F1."Stefano Domenicali, Ferrari's Formula One Team principal, however, reasserted his wish to have a third Ferrari on the F1 grid driven by Rossi, whilst confirming that Rossi would test an older Ferrari F1 car on 21 and 22 January 2010.

The all-new Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R race bike has been unveiled to the international press at the Nürburgring. The presentation of the new bike comes just before the German round of the FIM Superbike World Championship, which will take place at the Nürburgring race track this weekend.

The new Ninja ZX-10R will mark a fresh start for Kawasaki in the championship. From 2011, the Kawasaki World Superbike Racing Team will receive more means and more support from the mother company in Japan. Since 2009, the Kawasaki Superbike Racing Team have evolved and restructured continuously in order to be in a position to utilize the new bike’s potential to the maximum next season.

The initial race team bikes themselves will be full factory bikes, built and sent to the team from Kawasaki Heavy Industries (KHI) in Japan. The bike is unveiled only now, as Kawasaki starts the European testing trajectory.

Competing in the Superbike World Championship with the all new Ninja ZX-10R will show and expose Kawasaki at the highest level of motorcycle racing. The rules of the championship mean that Kawasaki starts off with and stay within the concept of the production bike which will be available at the local Kawasaki dealership.

Kawasaki is a racing company and the Ninja brand has a solid racing history and pedigree. The new machine will give Kawasaki the possibility to revive the image of being a successful racing company as the company already shows in so many other of motorcycle racing categories within which Kawasaki competes today.

The unveiling of the new Ninja ZX-10R at the Nürburgring was the only chance for people to see the bike close up before next month. The next opportunity to be eye-to-eye with the new Ninja ZX-10R race bike will be the Intermot show in Cologne, starting the 6th of October.
